This is the bottom piece of the pole that will either anchor it to the ground or serve as the base if you are putting it on a deck or other solid surface.
We highly recommend the Twister piece if you are putting this in soil. It is more stable than the ground socket and much easier to install and get in straight. Plus you don't lose any height (with the ground socket you will lose about 12" of height since the vertical section of pole slips that far into the socket). Clear away mulch and loose dirt so that the twister goes 20" down into solid ground.
If you are putting your pole system on a deck or other hard surface, use the patio base. We recommend putting 2 tube sand bags over it for extra stability, especially if you regularly experience high winds.
Available options:
Optional add-on for extra stability. We recommend using the pole stabilizer if you plan on loading up you pole system with 4 or more feeders or if you experience 40+ mph wind gusts with some regularity.
Pick how high you want your pole system to be. We highly recommend the 80 inch pole for feeder systems as it will allow your average sized feeder (1-2 feet long) to hang at about eye height. This is ideal for viewing and will make it so the feeders are high enough that a squirrel can't jump directly onto them (you will still want to use a baffle so they can't climb the pole itself). For mounting a bird house or a single hopper/tray style feeder, we recommend the 60 inch pole.
You can fine-tune the pole height by adding extensions in the next step.
Optional to increase or fine-tune your pole height or to add a decorative piece. On this page you can add multiple extensions. For example, the decorative basket extender will increase the pole height by 8 inches. So if you want toe system to be 80 inches tall as recommended, you will want to get a 60 in pole from the previous step, a 12 inch pole extension plus the decorative basket extender.
Now it's time to choose the top of your pole. There are 5 styles: Economy Pole Topper (comes in 3 arms only) Round Steel Topper (comes in 2, 3, or 4 arms) Wrought Iron Topper (comes in 2, 3, or 4 arms) Hand Forged Topper (comes in 3 or 4 arms) Extended Reach Pole Topper (comes in 3 or 4 arms)
These arms snap on the pole at any height and can face any direction of your choosing. Great for adding additional feeders at different height from your main arms. 4 options to choose from plus the quick connect branch that gives birds space to perch.
Optional. All pole toppers come with the spire finial top. Only use this option if you want to get the cardinal finial instead.
Unless you don't mind the squirrels and raccoons getting at your feeders, you will definitely want a baffle on your brand new pole system. We highly recommend the dome top racoon baffle as it is 99.9% squirrel and raccoon proof. The dome top squirrel baffle is a good second choice and stops squirrels around 90% of the time. But they do sometimes manage to get around it and raccoons often end up figuring out how to climb around it.
Consider getting the flat top raccoon baffle if you are really having issues with raccoons. Its larger circumference makes it 100% squirrel and raccoon proof.
