Want to work at our wild bird shop?  We are now looking to hire 1-2 new employees to start immediately.  Please read everything before applying.

Responsibilities would include:

– Answering customer questions and ringing up sales

– Unboxing orders and restocking shelves

– Mixing and bagging bird seed

– Cleaning the store

-Occasionally helping deliver products (you would be compensated for miles driven)

-Helping with any other issues that may arise

The job of bagging and mixing the bird seed is a physical job that requires lifting 50 lbs. bags and bending at the waist often.  We recognize that this may exclude some people who would still make great sales associates, which is why we are willing to make this into two positions.  If you know you can handle the physical work along with the other responsibilities, we would love to have one person that could do everything and you would be compensated more.

Starting pay will vary slightly depending on experience level, but likely starting at around $17 per hour.  If it ends up being a good fit, we can discuss raising this within the first few months.  This position would be full time (minimum of 30 hours per week, 3-5 days per week) with at least one of those days being a weekend day and preference to anyone who could work both Saturday and Sunday.  We hope to make this position a minimum of 40 hours a week very shortly but that will depend on business.  The schedule is flexible, just need to know your desired days off as early as possible.

We would like someone that is willing to grow with us, taking on more responsibilities and earning more pay as our business grows.  Prior retail or customer service experience highly desired but at least need to have a passion for interacting with customers and sharing your love of wild birds.  A passion for wild birds and nature is required.  Also prefer someone who is familiar with computers and has a basic understanding of Microsoft Windows and Office Programs (Word, Excel, Publisher).  As a small business, we must wear many hats, so prefer someone who is a good problem solver and looks for ways to improve things.  We pride ourselves on offering great products with quality service and expertise, so a positive attitude is a must.

 

If we end up splitting this into 2 positions they would be:

Designated Seed Bagger:  You would come in 1-2 times per week and bag seed as necessary.  This would be a flexible position as it wouldn’t have to be during store hours.  In fact, we would almost prefer if this was done entirely outside of store hours, which would be to your benefit as well.  This way you can wear whatever clothing you are most comfortable in and listen to whatever music you want (great job for a young person!).  Most of the time we would have you come in on Thursday/Friday and Sunday/Monday.  $12 per hour starting.  Would also be willing to discuss paying you based on output (like x amount per bag of seed made).  That way if you got good and efficient at mixing the bags and wanted to hustle to get it done quicker, you could make more and work fewer hours.  I think we could get you up to at least $14-$15 an hour going this route.  Must be able to lift 50lb bags and be able to do physical work.

Sales Associate:  This position would start at 2-3 days per week and occasionally be 4-5 days per week when other employees take time off.  Responsibilities include everything listed above except mixing and bagging bird seed (though you would still be expected to sometimes bag the smaller bag sizes (5 and 10 lbs bags) and may have to bag the large bags once in a great while if we happen to have a run on a particular product, but it would be rare).  Interest in wild birds is required and priority will go to those with prior retail/customer service experience and a willingness to eventually take on more responsibilities and go full-time.  Starting pay will vary slightly depending on experience level, but likely starting around $15 per hour.  If things go well, we can discuss raising this within the first few months.  We would like someone that is willing to growth with us, taking on more responsibilities and earning more pay as our business grows.  Prior retail or customer service experience highly desired but at least need to have a passion for interacting with customers.  Also prefer someone who is familiar with computers and has a basic understanding of using Microsoft Windows and Office Programs (Word, Excel, Publisher).  As a small business, we must wear many hats, so prefer someone who is a good problem solver and looks for ways to improve things.  Must be able to at least load 50lb bags onto dolly and put in customers’ car.
